Week of May 22, 2006

Please provide honest evaluation of Mr. Pahl.  Affirm and praise things that were good about Mr. Pahl and his class, and give honest critical feedback if you think it would be helpful:

http://www.ratemyteachers.com

(Click on Illinois, then find Bartlett High School, then go to the "P"s to find Mr. Pahl)

I can benefit from hearing from you what is good and bad, from your perspective, of my classes.  Please be fair and honest in "grading" me!

Thanks,

Thursday, May 18, 2006

Work with a partner or two. View this powerpoint-web presentation and then tell Mr. Pahl what you think the 5 most important events that took place between 1900-1950.  (When this powerpoint-web presentation talks about Big Era 7, it is referring to the Industrial Revolution.)

Thursday, May 4      TEST, Chapter 19, The French Revolution

There are two parts to this test.  The first part is an electronic test like we usually take.  Click here to go to this test.  For ID# put your period, and be sure to write both names if you are working with a partner. (No more than two people can work together on the test.)

  • * No music.
  • * No talking, except with the partner you are taking the test with.

The second part of the test, which can only be taken after you have completed the first test, is to compare the American Declaration of Independence with the French Declaration of the Rights of Man.  You can use internet resources to help you get ideas.

Thursday April 13

Check out Planet X  After you finish your test, you must get together a team of at least 3 people and submit a Constitution for planet X.

Take the test on chapter 18.  You must take it yourself, no partners, no notes. When you  have submitted in, you can begin putting together your team of AT LEAST 3 people to write a constitution for Planet X.

Thursday, April 6

Take the test on Chapter 17.1-3:

Go to your whiteboard link below.  On your whiteboard are the questions to the test. Work with your row to divide up answering them in whatever way you feel is best.  Try to work as a team.

YOUR ANSWERS MUST BE PRINTED OUT NEAR THE END OF THE HOUR, AND ALL OF YOU MUST SIGN YOUR NAME, WITH INK, ON THE TEST ANSWERS WHEN THEY PRINT OUT.

IT IS DUE AT THE END OF THE PERIOD. PERIOD.

NO EXCUSES, OTHER THAN POSSIBLE TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES. (Tell Mr. Pahl right away if this happens!)

IN CASE YOU DON'T FINISH THE TEST, STILL,  TURN IN WHAT YOUR HAVE!

PERIOD 1

PERIOD 2

PERIOD 3

Thursday, March 23

Work with a partner...open the electronic textbook (above) and look over Chapter 17:1-3

Take this test as an open book test.  You can use the text to help you with the answers...(you don't need to fill in an email address...use the ID blank to put what class period you are in.) Be sure to put both names on the name blank.

CLEP students...You will need to study Chapter 17:1-3 for the CLEP test...and by the way, sorry about this...ECC is on spring break next week and you cannot schedule the CLEP test during that time.  So plan to take the CLEP test soon after spring break...you can call today or tomorrow to schedule a test form sometime after spring break, or you can call after spring break....:-) Mr P

Monday, March 6 and Thursday, March 9

Collaborate With Your Row!  You must work together, individually, through electronic collaboration!  From your own computer you have access to a whiteboard that you will write on.  It is the job of your row to Summarize 16.1, your reading for today.  It is about the Spanish conquests of the Aztecs by Cortez and the Incas by Pizzaro.  Include at the end of your summary the reasons that enabled only a few hundred Spaniards to conquer civilizations that had millions of people.

To repeat, your finished whiteboard, done with members of your row will include:

  1. A summary of the conquests of Cortez and Pizzaro.
  2. A concluding list of reasons as to how justa few hundred Spaniards could conquer such large empires.
  3. Be sure each member of your row writes his or her name at the end of this writing.
  4. This is notebook assignment #27

You can use the electronic textbook in completing this assignment, but do not copy the text. Your report is to be a SUMMARY of 16.1, so your writing must be shorter in length than the book.  DO NOT TURN IN VERY LONG SUMMARIES! :-)  So cutting and pasting from the text will not work.  USE YOUR OWN WORDS TO SUMMARIZE.

Also, PLEASE NOTE: your quiz tomorrow will include items from the Assessment that is at the end of 16.1 and 16.2, so be sure to study these in the lab.

  • Here are links to the whiteboards for your row.

2-16-06

Take this test on chapter 11 sections 1 and 2, Islam. You can work with 1 partner; if you do, put both names on the quiz. Be sure to put your period number or you will lose points!

Do a Google search and report below to Mr. Pahl about the "Golden Age of Islam".  What is it?  When was it?

Fun!  Big time extra credit!  Design a way to have the ball land in the basket...

1st hour.  You cheat!  (1 extra credit point for everybody!)

2nd hour. Call Mr. Pahl over when you think you have a winning run.  ONE CHANCE.  If the ball does not go in, NO POINTS.  If it does, 5 points EC.
