login. Be sure to have the Matrix of Knowledge,
from chapter 2, done by Friday, Feb. 11.
(Crack the Code from Chapter 3 is due next Wed.)
Find an article that deals with a nation other
than the United States...from one
of the links to the right...find something in the article
that gives insight into the legitimacy of the foreign
government in the article...and tell Mr. Pahl about it (10
points, due by the end of the period....If you finish
it later, you must print this out and turn into Mr. Pahl):
Wed Feb 16
This video
review from last semester will help you... advance
to the chapter 3 part...
Take this quiz on
chapter 3, section 2 (3.2). You can do this with a
partner. You can use the online book...not
your textbook...
Answer the following questions from section 3.3 and 3.4.
(Again, you can use the online textbook...) (These
questions may appear in some form on the test on Chap. 3
this Friday...) 10 points for these,
due at end of the period...
(these must be printed out and handed to Mr. Pahl if done
after today...)
TCI online text.
Use the online textbook, in chapter 7, section 4, to
describe liberalism, conservatism, libertarianism,
environmentalism
and socialism: (10 points, due by the end of the
period. (0 points if you cut and paste any
part of it...) If you are doing this assignment
after Feb. 23 it must be turned in printed out to
Mr. Pahl)
On page A16 of the New York Times
(username and password 200295079)
are three articles that deal with budget crises, one
about the U.S., one about Wisconsin, and one about Ohio.
Describe below what the main issue is in each one of these
stories, and then explain what the liberal and conservative
position is on that issue (worth 15 points, due at end
of period, if done after 3/2/11 must be printed out and handed
to Mr. Pahl):
Then go to the
Moodle forum on Political Beliefs and weigh in on what
you think about the state budget crises...(5 points...)
LIBERAL/CONSERVATIVE. Read the article on page
A18 of the NYT.
From this article find an issue over which there is
disagreement of contention. What is the liberal side of
this? What is the conservative side of this issue? If
you do not want to use this article, you can choose one of the
sources to the right to find an article, column, or letter to
the editor in which there is a conflict (issue) that
has two sides, a liberal and conservative
side. Get Mr. Pahl's permission for an alternative article. In many columns or articles one of the sides will be
more clearly explained, but usually the other side can be
deduced or drawn out from what is in the story. Tell
me which source you used, the name of the article,
and then describe the issue involved and the
liberal and conservative side on the issue... (15
points, due by tomorrow, March 10. Must be printed out if
turned in after March 10.):
Did you listen to Mr. Pahl yesterday talking about the
first part of chapter 10 (when most students were
snoring...)?
Check and see how well you listened...and this will
help you study for the Chapter 10 test on Friday...
(Don't forget the worksheet with voter turnout graphs
is due tomorrow, 15 points, you can do partners...)
In the online textbook, chapter 10, do the
Primary
Source Investigation. (20 points, due by Friday, Mar.

You can submit your proposal here, or turn it in on a
piece of paper to Mr. Pahl (by Friday, 5 points.) Be sure to
indicate if you are going to want to do any fundraising...
