NOTEBOOK Assignments.  Make sure you have all of these in your notebook, numbered and neat! :-) :

 
 
  1. 3 part assignment from Chapter 1:

    1. Write out vocab words, define them, and draw a picture for each.

    2. Draw the chart on p. 8 of Aristotle's classification of governments

    3. Summarize each one of the five Games People Play from 1.5
     

  2. From chapter 1, section 2, describe each of the following means which have been used to justify political legitimacy: The mandate of Heaven, the divine right of kings, and social-contract theory.
    From chapter 1, section 3, explain what the two building blocks of all governments are, and why they are necessary
     

  3. From Chapter 2, write out the vocabulary, with definitions, and draw a picture for each word.  ALSO, from section 2.2 IN A CHART summarize the kinds of governments in each stage of history: Ancient, Greece/Rome, Middle Ages and Age of Revolutions.  Be sure to use the bold words in your summaries.
     

  4. Make a chart comparing the forms of totalitarianism on p. 23.
     

  5. From section 2.3 summarize each one of the 7 forms of government in the world today Make a chart (like the one on p. 29) to visually show the difference between the 6th and 7th forms of government (parliamentary v. presidential democracy.)
     

  6. From section 2.4 draw a chart (p. 31) comparing Unitary, Federal and Confederal Systems.
     

  7. From section 2.5, create some kind of graphic which compares the 3 major economic systems, traditional, market and command. You can basically use the chart on page 34, but you will have to add a column for a traditional economy.
     

  8. Take notes on Mr. Pahl's lecture on chapter 2, Feb. 10, 2011.
     

  9. Respond to this prompt: "People in North Korea have no rights. In the U.S. we do. How did we get those rights?  How do we keep them?  Why does North Korea not have them?"
     

  10. a. Write out the meaning of the vocabulary words in chapter 3, and draw a picture for each word.
    b. Draw your own version of the timeline on pp. 42-43. Be sure the 7 concepts and the places where they arose are on the timeline. Make the chart graphic and be sure to have a title for the chart.

  1. Notebook assignment #11. Do an autobiographical chart in which you examine yourself, as to where your political beliefs and values came from.  Make an assessment in each of the areas from the chart on page 161: Gender, Ethnicity, News Media, Family, Peer Groups, Religion, School.

    a. Take the tests online in the lab for Wed., Feb. 23.  Tests
    b. Write down the results
    for each one of the four tests, and add the result of the liberal-conservative questionnaire Mr. Pahl gave in class, in which the result was a number between 0-100.
    c. THEN WRITE A PARAGRAPH EXPLAINING WHAT YOU THINK THE SEVERAL TEST RESULTS SHOW. Are you more LIBERAL or CONSERVATIVE?
    d. Also say if you agree with these results...do you think they got you right?
  1. REQUIRED CIVICS VOCABULARY.  The required words for Civics in District U-46 are listed to the left. Write out definitions for these words, and draw a picture for each.

 

14. Write out the definition of the vocabulary words for chapter 10, on page 177, and draw a picture for each.

15. Complete the handout on 10.2, a chart on the expansion of suffering.

16. Complete the handout on 10.3, a chart with terms relating to the nominating process.


17. Create a visual display (such as a chart or diagram) in which you demonstrate you understand the following items.  These should all be in the visual display in the right relationships:
  • Separation of powers
  • 3 examples of checks-and-balances
  • The 3 branches of government
  • The federal bureaucracy
  • Federal district courts
  • The Supreme Court
  • The Congress:
    • The Senate
    • The House of Representatives
  • Citizens

Don't forget to put a title on your chart-diagram...
