Presidential democracy.
- Make a chart comparing a Market Economy with a Command Economy,
pages 33-35 in book.
- Take notes on Mr. Pahl's lectures on Chapter 3, The Roots of
American Democracy (Sept 15 and 17)
- Shared political values. Section 7.4 in the text.
Write out the shared American political values listed there.

6. IDEOLOGIES. Section 7.4 of
the text. Write out the following 5 ideologies: 1.
Liberalism 2. Conservatism, 3. Socialism, 4.
Libertarianism and 5. Environmentalism. Then write a
paragraph in which you explain which ideology you are
personally closest to and why. |

Liberal or Conservative? Write in your notebook the results of the
self-discovery tests you take in the lab on Sept. 30.
Be sure to write something about all three tests, #1, #2 and #3. Then
write a paragraph saying a) where these tests placed you on the
liberal-conservative scale, and b) whether you think you are more
liberal or conservative and WHY. Be as specific as you can.

Draw the picture/graphic on page 161 into your notebook. (Shown to
the left). Explain how each one of the pieces of the pie has
effected you personally and had a part in forming your political
identity and your outlook in life generally:
- Gender and ethnicity.
- News media.
- Family.
- School.
- Religion.
- Peer groups.

In Chapter 4, Section 4, there are 7 principles from
the Constitution listed. Write out the names of these 7,
explaining each one. Then on a separate sheet of paper,
make a graphic organizer of the 7 principles. (this part
is an assignment to be handed to Mr. Pahl.)
