NOTEBOOK Assignments.  Make sure you have all of these in your notebook:

 
 
  1. 3 part assignment from Chapter 1:

    1. Write out vocab words, define them, and draw a picture for each.

    2. Draw the chart on p. 8 of Aristotle's classification of governments

    3. Summarize each one of the five Games People Play from 1.5
     

  2. From chapter 1, section 2, describe each of the following means which have been used to justify political legitimacy: The mandate of Heaven, the divine right of kings, and social-contract theory.
    From chapter 1, section 3, explain what the two building blocks of all governments are, and why they are necessary


3. From chapter 2, sections 1 and 2: Write out the vocabulary, with definitions, and draw a picture for each word.  From 2.2 Summarize the kinds of governments in each stage of history: Ancient, Greece/Rome, Middle Ages and Age of Revolutions.  Be sure to use all of the bold words in your summaries.
 


4. Write out and illustrate the Vocabulary on p. 41, section 1 of Chapter 3, "The Roots of American Democracy." 

5. Draw your version of the timeline on pages 42 and 43.  Be sure the 7 concepts and the places where they arose are on the timeline. Be sure to have a title... Strive to make the chart graphic.

6. Draw a simple graphic-chart to indicate the make up of a typical colonial legislature (from 3.3 "Colonial Experience with Self-Government")

7. Draw a chart like the one below which indicates the differing positions on these issues. (pp. 53-54) Indicate in the last column what the final result was, that ended up in the Constitution.

8. Do the vocabulary for chapter 7, p. 123.  Write out the words, define them, draw a picture for each word...

 

9. Turn the information in the timeline on pp. 124-125 into a chart.  Be sure that all the information, including dates, that is in the timeline gets into your chart. You don't need to put any graphics in the chart. Be sure the chart has a title, column headings and borders all around.

11. IDEOLOGIES. Section 7.4 of the text.  Write out the following 5 ideologies: 1. Liberalism  2. Conservatism, 3. Socialism, 4. Libertarianism and 5. Environmentalism. Explain each of them in a paragraph, and then write a paragraph in which you explain which ideology you are personally closest to and why.

 

12. Analyze yourself- Are you liberal or conservative? Take the tests online in the lab for Wed., Oct. 13. Write down the results of each one of those tests. THEN WRITE A PARAGRAPH EXPLAINING WHAT YOU THINK THE TEST RESULTS SHOW ABOUT WHETHER YOU ARE MORE LIBERAL OR CONSERVATIVE. Also say if you agree with these results...did they get you right?

15. Describe the roots of your values that lead you to the political opinions you have. Using the graphic on p. 161 to help you describe the influences in your life that have led you to your beliefs...

 

16. Take notes on Mr. Pahl's review, Nov. 1, 2010, for the Chapter 10 test on Elections.

17. Draw a graphic representation of the three branches of the U.S. Government

  18. Draw a graphic representation (a diagram, drawings and text) of the structure of the Constitution. See section 4.2 and 4.3 of your text, including the chart on page 65. Be sure that you include the three basic parts of the Constitution in your diagram:
  1. the Preamble
  2. the 7 Articles, and
  3. the 27 Amendments. Group the Amendments in your diagram, the way they are grouped in section 4.3 of the text. 
19. Summarize the 7 Principles in the Constitution listed in chapter 4, section 4 (4.4) and then list the 5 sources Supreme Court justices use in interpreting the Constitution.
20. Newspaper Clippings.  Answer the questions in your notebook the questions that are posed on the handout from Mr. Pahl which has four articles: Pension, Obama Gift, U-46 Manifesto, and Parent Trigger.
